Safety at filling stations

The two-day course, which is specific to Abel’s oil company clients, has become a mandatory requirement for all staff working on filling station installations.
The first day of the course covers health and safety, with seven modules: introduction to health and safety law and safe systems of work; workplace safety; fire precautions and procedures; accidents and first aid; hazardous substances; manual handling; and noise at work.
The second day is specific to petrol stations and covers hazards; controlling work on a forecourt; and safe working practices. After each of the modules there is a test paper and a pass mark of 80 per cent is required.
The training concludes with a case study, which is a group activity where a problem is considered and the action required planned and then presented.
The course is just one of a series aimed at keeping Abel employees conversant with changing technology, standards and operating requirements affecting the security industry.
