Seaport embraces IP

IP Surveillance

More than four million tonnes of cargo and over four million passengers pass through the Finnish Port of Turku every year. In a bid to ramp up security, the Port’s Security Management Division has specified a complete, end-to-end IP video surveillance system designed by IndigoVision.

The set-up includes numerous dome cameras providing high definition images via a wireless WIMAX LAN that spans an area around the port covering ten square kilometres. Cameras watch over the main entrance, car parks, the Port’s rail network, the docks and the approaching seaways.

In addition, the Port operates a mobile CCTV vehicle for flexibility. The vehicle is based on a standard saloon car, and is fitted with a range of environmental sensors for measuring parameters such as toxicity and radioactivity, as well as a wireless CCTV camera and monitor. Should a large or unusual ship enter the Port, the vehicle can be despatched to monitor the event in areas not covered by the dedicated fixed cameras.

‘Control Centre’ – IndigoVision’s enterprise video and alarm management software – allows the security staff in the central Control Room to view live and recorded video from any of the cameras.

Recording is achieved using three of IndigoVision’s 800 Gb RAID-configured Network Video Recorders (NVRs).
