Securicor awarded Transec accreditation for port security training

The Code came into effect on 1 July, such that port facility security officers will play a central role in detecting and deterring any threats to international maritime security. For its part, Securicor will now provide comprehensive training programmes from a number of locations across the UK.

“The role of port facility security officers is central to the ISPS Code, and we’ll be training potential officers to the highest possible standard,” said Mike Goldsmith, regional operations director (maritime) at Securicor Security.

In addition, Securicor has just signed a contract with the Port of Dover to provide shore-side services for the port’s cruise shipping operations. The contract runs for three years.

  • Only 5% of 5,578 ports surveyed across the EU have had their security measures approved, prompting the International Chamber of Commerce to call on Governments to “urgently process” compliance certification applications from both ports and shipping lines.
