Security advice at Total Workplace Management
The UK’S largest exhibition for facilities and Estates Management professionals takes place at London’s Olympia on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 October. The event Total Workplace Management 2007 forms part of Working Buildings Week, which combines several related exhibitions under one roof and represents the UK’s largest single gathering of the facilities management profession.
Top decision-makers from a wide cross-section of industries are expected to visit the show, which is organised by Security Management Today’s publisher CMP Information in association with the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM).
Last year’s visitors included executives from some of the UK’s foremost companies, including Rolls-Royce, BSkyB, Barclays, Marks & Spencer and Taylor Woodrow. Senior managers from public sector organisations such as the Ministry of Defence, the Home Office and the Crown Prosecution Service also attended.
For the security specialist and the facilities manager looking to source some of the latest security solutions, Olympia is most certainly the place to be. Security solutions exhibitors in 2007 include Honeywell, Nedap, Borer, Trellicor, Shred-It, SecurIt, Telelog, London Secure, Integrated Design Ltd, SIM Entry and Lindum Fire and Security. In the co-located M&E – The Building Services Event Exhibition, visitors will be able to seek out ADT Security, Group 4 Technology and the British Security Industry Association.
The Learning Zone for practitioners
The FM Learning Zone comprises 12 sessions that run across two days within the Henley Suite alongside the exhibition in the Grand Hall. This is a great opportunity for facilities and security practitioners to make the most of their time by updating their practical knowledge.
This year’s programme sees the introduction of new sessions dealing with diversity (with the introduction of new legislation and a rising interest in diversity management, FMs need to understand the issues and deal with them confidently), the principles of project management (comprising an overview of typical FM projects, Best Practice project management techniques, building your team and managing your resources to best effect and a Health and Safety update (with so many changes in this legislation over recent years, there’ll be an overview of the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Construction, Design and Management Regulations and the Disability Discrimination Act).
The ‘Inspiring Solutions for a Smarter World’ strand is designed to engage facilities and security managers with technologies (on-line reporting, mobile solutions, active KPIS and SLA management through to RFID) and building a roadmap for IT strategies that impacts on the working environment.
There will also be a series of stands and seminars focusing on the ‘challenge of delivery’ facing FM and security suppliers at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Total workplace management at olympia is open from 10.00 am through until 5.00 pm on 10 October (the day of the Security Excellence Awards) and from 9.00 am until 4.00 pm the following day.
