Security Guarding at IFSEC 2008 targets facilities professionals

Planned with the full support of the British Security Industry Association, The Security Institute, ASIS International’s UK Chapter 208, Skills for Security and several of the UK’s foremost security guarding companies, the Security Guarding and Support Services area at IFSEC 2008 is relocating to a new, prime position in Hall 7 at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (immediately adjacent to co-located exhibition The Facilities Show 2008).

This relocation, expertly orchestrated by the IFSEC Exhibition Team at CMP Information (which is headed up by event director James Blue), takes into account the increasingly important role facilities managers have in the procurement of security guarding services.

Speaking about the realignment, James Blue comments: “Leaving the office is sometimes very difficult for busy security and facilities managers as there are now so many demands placed on their time. However, sourcing the right kind of products and services to ensure that their company’s buildings are adequately protected and run efficiently and effectively is an essential part of their remit.”

Blue continues: “The co-location of Security Guarding and Support Services with The Facilities Show in 2008 means that end user clients can now source products and services to cover all aspects of the host organisation. Furthermore, with the ongoing issues surrounding Security Industry Authority licensing and the parallel Approved Contractor Scheme, now is the time for end users to perhaps re-evaluate their existing guarding contracts. This is certainly true of contracts approaching their renewal date.”

IFSEC 2008 will also feature a packed seminar programme and a new strategic conference aimed at all professionals concerned with the management of security. Expert speakers so far confirmed by CMP Information’s all-new Conferences Division include representatives from the Metropolitan Police Service, Huntingdon Life Sciences, JP Morgan, London Underground, G4S Cash Services (UK) and the Essex Police. Sessions are set to focus on ‘real life’ applications of effective and efficient security techniques and technologies across the major ‘verticals’ (among them the retail, banking and transport sectors). Updates on the latest standards and legislation will also be included.

The Security Guarding and Support Services area is to feature the UK’s leading guarding contractors, with G4S Security Services (UK), MITIE Security, Wilson James, the Legion Group and Nationwide Security Services joined by solutions and systems providers like Innovise and Romtrac. Representatives from the NTIPDU will be on hand, so too those from the International Professional Security Association.

What the leading players say…

Speaking to info4security about the event, Darren Gamage (head of marketing at MITIE Security) states: “We’re delighted to be taking a major presence within the Security Guarding and Support Services area at IFSEC 2008. We’ve worked closely with the IFSEC Event Team at CMP Information to help in shaping the area, and we’ll be building-in elements of the feedback we received from clients at last year’s show. It’s going to be a great success.”

Douglas Greenwell is the marketing director at G4S Security Services (UK), and a regular contributor to Security Management Today (SMT). Talking about IFSEC 2008, Greenwell explains: “Our position in the Security Guarding and Support Services area affords us the opportunity to demonstrate our full range of integrated security solutions. We very much look forward to welcoming visitors to Stand 570 so that they can discuss with us their immediate and future security requirements. We can then demonstrate the products, technologies and services that have helped to make G4S a recognised market leader in private sector security provision.”

IFSEC 2008 Charity of the Year

CMP Information, the organiser of IFSEC, has nominated Hear4U as its Charity of the Year for 2008.

Hear4U is a service developed by The Company of Security Professionals in conjunction with Security Management Today (SMT) and FirstAssist specifically for individuals working in the security profession, providing them with medical and health-related guidance and support. The objective is to enable those employees who may have been injured at work or are suffering from ill-health to return to gainful employment as soon as possible. It’s a ‘safety net’ for the most vulnerable individuals working in the security sector, in particular front line officers.

During the past 12 months, members of Hear4U’s Support Team have counselled those distressed by bereavement, and offered comfort to industry employees who have fallen on hard times in addition to swift medical assistance in instances where waiting on the NHS may have jeopardised an individual’s employment.
