Security industry show their faces for Movember

November, for those not in the know, was unofficially renamed Movember around five years ago as men around the world began growing moustaches to raise the profile of prostate cancer and men’s health.

Now in Movember 2012, security companies have got in on the act, with men from organisations around the world growing their top lips out in admiration of ‘tache hero Tom Selleck.

An estimated half a million men are expected to be taking part in Movember this year, hoping to exceed last year’s global total of almost GB pound 80m.

So who’s taking part from the security world? Over 20 staff from access control company Paxton have already raised over GB pound 400 between them.

Daniel Kidd who suggested they take part this year said: “Movember is an excellent way to raise both money and awareness for causes that are sometimes seen as embarrassing. The nature of the conditions that are supported by Movember; prostate and testicular cancer, are understandably distressing for the person affected, as well as their family and friends.”

Meanwhile the Avigilon team, true to Canadian form (Canada as a whole raised the largest amount of any country in 2011), are smashing the competition having already raised over CAD $4,600.

And we couldn’t resist in the UBM offices. I’ve been attempting to grow a feeble moustache, which might explain my feeble running total of just GB pound 15.
