Broughton Controls has taken a simple double-leaf hinged gate and, by positioning it into a ‘V’ formation, has created an immensely strong barrier. By adding protected locking and an integrated grid the company has created an “unprecedented” security system that’s simple to operate and install. The ‘V’ formation of the Defender 930 provides immense in-built strength and forces vehicle impact to the sides, with the foundation grid absorbing the impact. As each leaf has to travel only a 45 degree arc to open, the amount of high risk time is reduced. In crash tests (shown) the system withstood a 7.5 tonne vehicle travelling at 50 mph, and operated and locked successfully once the wreckage had been removed.

BT i-Witness is a digital image storage and retrieval solution for police services and their partners, and comes in the wake of a Home Office/Association of Chief Police Officers document highlighting problems with Court use of digital images such as low frame rates, over compression, lack of security and audit functions (or even an inability to download to removable media). The i-Witness system allows the operator to maintain a system that delivers fit for purpose outputs addressing all of these specific requirements.
Plextek
Blighter is an “affordable, man-portable” short-range radar for commercial security applications. Plextek says that, up until now, the size and cost of radar systems have stopped them being used in security outside of the military. This system is designed for crime detection, and can be networked with multiple radar units or other devices to protect open areas such as airports, harbours and ports.

PatrolVu is an advanced, mobile CCTV solution that addresses the issues of deterring street crime and anti-social behaviour. Usually overt, the vehicles equipped with digital recording acquire evidence, and can then provide local authorities with high quality recordings for enforcement of ASBOs and street crime incidents. PatrolVu allows 24/7 operation using rapid deployment vehicles for almost any location, and provides “public reassurance” that the authorities are present.

C-Mor is a fully-functional PTZ dome with integral IR lighting. It enables long distance IR (up to 100 metres) to always track the dome’s movements, allowing full 360 degree pan and tilt. C-Mor saves on costs and installers’ time because no supplementary lighting equipment is needed. Where aesthetics are important to a building, it offers an attractive alternative to separate dome and lighting equipment. A second on-board camera allows zooming in while still viewing the whole picture. Said to be “green” technology by developer Videoswitch, C-Mor also illuminates a specific area rather than using a flood approach.

SLIPstream is a security signalling system that combines the company’s 2424 signalling technology with 02 GPRS. It is said to reduce the security industry’s carbon footprint by allowing the installer to visit the site once for commissioning followed by remote management, thereby reducing site visits overall. SLIPstream is also said to solve the problem of installers not having the time or resources to perform a site survey on the wireless component of a dual path system. SLIPstream provides a real-time signal strength reading at the receiver.
