Security trainees get IET membership

It follows an agreement signed by IET chief executive, Nigel Fine, and Tavcom Training managing director, Mike Tennent.

Tavcom delivers training courses to the security and surveillance sectors.

Those studying its BTEC Diploma will now become IET members and have access to professional qualifications such as Engineering Technician and ICT Technician.

Nigel Fine, IET chief executive said, “The IET and Tavcom each have similar aims and objectives which support engineers and technicians in their careers.

“This collaboration is a key part of our strategy to boost standards worldwide and promote professional qualifications, which are vital in today’s increasingly global job market.”

Tavcom’s managing director, Mike Tennent, said professional registration with an internationally recognised institution was the pinnacle of achievement for technicians and engineers working in electronic security.

“All of us at Tavcom Training are thrilled to be working in collaboration with the IET” he said.

“We can immediately provide our delegates with membership of this highly respected Institution and, ultimately, we will be able to offer them the opportunity to apply for EngTech registration – as a direct result of following and completing our BTEC Diploma training pathway.”

The IET launched its ICT Tech qualification in January. This assesses not only technical skills but “interpersonal and professional skills that are important in career development”.
