Curiously for a London free daily newspaper, the story focused on the actions of Dorset Police.
It said: “Dorset Police are appealing for ‘community-minded’ members of the public to watch screens showing live footage from 26 cameras in three towns on Friday and Saturday nights.”
The story, credited to Fred Attewill, quoted the Police Federation describing the initiative as ‘Dad’s Army policing’.
But I really don’t understand the problem.
In our modern society, so often characterised as being of short attention span, pilloried for its music video attitude towards important issues – in this society, who is more suited to paying attention to the misdeeds of youths and others than our valuable OAPs?
Who has spent more time in training for a role like this? No one.
If we are to utilise one sector of our society in an important role looking into other peoples’ business, let’s let it be our wonderful and respected senior citizens.
