SIA and The Security Institute join forces on new intern programme
THE SECURITY INDUSTRY AUTHORITY (SIA) AND The Security Institute have teamed up to offer “development opportunities” for two interns recruited from the private security industry, each of them working on specific projects in tandem with the Regulator.
The interns will be based at the SIA’s High Holborn offices in central London for a minimum of six months, and support development managers working on scoping the introduction of SIA licensing in Northern Ireland (and preparing a business case for its delivery) and implementing the Regulator’s Stakeholder Engagement Strategy.
According to an official SIA statement: “The programme will enhance the understanding of professional security issues between the SIA and the broad community of security professionals.”
The Security Institute is to recruit, screen and recommend applicants for the internships, and the SIA will then select suitable candidates.
Speaking about the move, SIA chairman Baroness Ruth Henig said: “This is a great opportunity for individuals already working in the private security industry to focus their skills and experience on topical issues within the SIA. It will also enhance the communication between ourselves and the wider security industry. We welcome applicants from all security professions, and we are looking forward to working collaboratively with The Security Institute to recruit the very best candidates.”
The Security Institute’s chairman Bill Wyllie told SMT: “We warmly welcome this tremendous initiative, which will enable us all to take forward the good work that has already been brought about by regulation.”
