SIA to host ‘Future of Regulation’ Roadshows across the UK

Attending one of these events will provide front line security operatives with an outline of how business licensing and individual registration will work under the new system.

The Roadshows represent an ideal opportunity for delegates to find out the facts about the future of regulation such that they’re correctly informed about the changes.

The briefings are free to attend and will take place on the following dates:

  • Thursday 20 October: Bristol
  • Wednesday 26 October: Glasgow
  • Tuesday 1 November: Northampton
  • Thursday 3 November: Chester
  • Wednesday 9 November: York
  • Wednesday 16 November: London
  • Tuesday 22 November: Belfast

Phased transition to a new regulatory regime

In October 2010, the Government announced a “phased transition to a new regulatory regime” for the private security industry. The Security Industry Authority is currently working with the Government and partners across the security sector to plan how private security in the UK will be regulated in the future.

The new regulation will build on the successes of Security Industry Authority licensing to date and the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS). There will be no major changes to regulation or the ACS before the Olympic Games 2012.

Currently, the Private Security Industry Act 2001 remains law. It’s a criminal offence for security operatives and those deploying them to work in licensable activities without a valid licence from the Regulator. The Security Industry Authority and its partners continue to ensure that the law is properly enforced.
