Skills for Security offer UK apprentices EU placements
Skills for Security is inviting applications from fire and security systems apprentices who would like to undertake a fully-funded, two-week work placement in Denmark.
The Leonardo Mobility Project is funded by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme and is the first of its kind in the security sector.
Three groups of ten apprentices will travel to Copenhagen in April and June next year in order to work alongside Danish engineers, exchange ideas, learn about different working methods, enhance their skills and experience the work ethic and social culture of Denmark.
Skills for Security has been working in partnership with the Danish Institute of Fire & Security Technology (DBI) to provide this opportunity. The apprentices involved will be hosted by Bravida, the leading company in Scandinavia for the installation and maintenance of electrical, fire, security, plumbing and ventilation systems.
The DBI is also planning its own reciprocal programme in the UK next year, when Skills for Security will host 20 trainers from Denmark. They’ll visit colleges and other industry partners to discover how the sector operates in the UK.
Project funding: what’s covered?
The project funding covers:
- support through the application process;
- international travel;
- health and travel insurance;
- work placement activity;
- living allowance;
- accommodation;
- support and certification.
The experience will be invaluable for the apprentices and they will return to their employers with new skills and insights to bring to their everyday working lives.
All the apprentices who complete the programme will be presented with a Europass CV at a celebration event to be held in the autumn of 2013.
Project dates are as follows: 6-20 April (Northern Group), 20 April-4 May (London Group) and 15-29 June (Midlands Group)
Importance of apprenticeships
Ruth Oliver, the Leonardo Mobility Project manager at Skills for Security, said: “Apprenticeships are important within the UK and the benefits of apprenticeships are well documented. This project will boost the skills of the individual apprentices taking part while also bringing benefits to employers by learning from international Best Practice. European placements can improve skills vital to UK employers such as technical and practical skills, communication skills, confidence and motivation.”
Full details, the selection criteria and an application form are available on the Skills for Security website.
Applicants must be aged 18 or over at the date of travel and working for their Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. The deadline for applications is Friday 14 September.
