State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

Smiths at college

The installer is a partner of Salto Systems, who provided the equipment.

Darren Bryan, colleges manager at Smiths Security, said the old system was magstripe card and did not provide the amount of information required to manage the access of students and staff.

“New College decided to address this situation as part of a rolling upgrade of its security facilities and enhance the system with a modern state-of-the-art Mifare contactless access system.

“We designed a highly secure and flexible access control system, installing four WRM9001 wall readers utilising the Salto Virtual Network (SVN) and 25 E9000 series comfort range electronic handle sets in satin stainless steel” said Bryan.

“The on-line wall readers are fitted to the main doors, controlling perimeter access, while the off-line handle sets control access to the individual student rooms. And, operating together, the system has been configured to provide built in growth capability for the College’s future security and access control requirements,”

The E9000 handle sets read, receive and write information via the contactless Mifare cards as students enter and leave the building.
