A few weeks ago I mentioned to Security Installer editor, and industry doyen, Alan Hyder that the Songs About Security feature had thus far been pretty light on tunes from the 1960s.
Although he said nothing at the time, I was pretty sure he had been hurt and upset – devastated is probably the most accurate decision – by my decision to allow SMT editor Brian Sims to guest programme an Iron Maiden song in the coveted Friday slot.
I was keen to rectify this injustice, so asked Alan to devise something suitably sixties. For his part, he decided early on that nothing less than the quite well known band ‘The Beatles’ would do.
These Beatles fellows recorded a fair amount of music, but it’s fair to say that not many of their tunes focus, even tangentially, on the 21st century security industry. Especially ones with youtube videos available.
So, affecting a ‘groovy’ sixties persona, Alan said: “It’s about time we had something from the decade that shaped the world as we know it, man. And what better than the greatest ever band, The Beatles?
“Lennon’s “Revolution” was not only a comment on the futility of violence but a thinly-veiled prophesy of the switch from analogue to digital security technology.
“Far out, uptight and outta sight. It’s my bag, man. Can you dig it?”
Yes, Alan, we can dig it.
We can indeed.
