Sprayfilm hits the LPCB mark

[

Sprayfilm WB3 thin film intumescent coating, manufactured by Cafco International, has recently achieved independent third party certification from Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB).

The approval covers product performance during fire testing; fire test assessment procedures; system installation; the manufacturing process and product service experience.

Sprayfilm WB3 provides between 30 and 120 minutes’ fire resistance on structural steel, including I-section beams, H-section columns and hollow sections. At ratings such as 120 minutes, the required final thickness of an intumescent coating increases, but Cafco says Sprayfilm WB3 has one of the lowest thickness requirements of any water based intumescent coating. It is based, says the company, on polyvinyl acetate resins and fillers that cure to provide durable, decorative and effective fire protective finish which if required can be sealed and protected with a decorative topcoat. When subject to fire, a chemical reaction takes place causing the coating to expand and form an insulating layer, which prevents the temperature of the steel rising to a critical level.
