A director of Sutherland Roberts Security and Brecon Security, Roy holds a BSc (Honours) in criminology, an MSc in social research and the environment and a post-graduate diploma in applied social science.
Sutherland served for over 30 years with the Metropolitan Police Service, during which time he undertook numerous and varied operational and investigative roles before being appointed to divisional command in West and South West London as chief superintendent.
With his appointment ratified at the ASC’s Annual General Meeting, Sutherland told SMT Online: “I’m delighted to have become the Association’s chairman. The ASC is the premier organisation for security consultants, setting professional standards, promoting members’ interests and providing opportunities for professional development and networking.”
Sutherland added: “I very much look forward to leading the direction of the Association over the next few years, particularly when it comes to welcoming new members who wish to establish their professional standing and broaden their business opportunities.”
Structure of the ASC Board
Roy is joined on the Board by Jon Laws (deputy chairman), Chris Roberts (treasurer), Mike Cahalane (founding director), Nigel Flower (founding director), Stewart Brown, Simon Cooper, Gordon Herrald, Allan Hildage, Simon Lambert and Simon Whitehouse. Company secretary is Laurie Doust, with John Benton continuing his role as life president.
Patron’s role for Lord Bethell
Lord James Bethell has accepted the role of Patron. Lord Bethell is communications director for Policy Exchange, the Westminster ‘Think Tank’. He was formerly managing partner of communications agency Portland, and has five years’ journalistic experience as staff reporter at The Sunday Times.
Lord Bethell’s political experience stems from his former Conservative Parliamentary candidacy, and working for US Senator Robert Dole in addition to EU Commissioner Lord Brittan.
