Technology board appoints members
Then Trade and Industry Secretary Alistair Darling made the announcement as The Technology Strategy Board prepares to become operational as an executive non-departmental public body on the 1st of July.
The board will be responsible for delivering Government support to encourage business investment in technology and innovation across the UK economy. It hopes to deliver this in a range of ways, including Collaborative R&D, Knowledge Transfer Networks, Innovation Platforms and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
The newly-appointed board members are Graeme Armstrong, Nick Buckland, John Brown, Joseph Feczko, Anne Glover, David Grant, Jonathan Kestenbaum, Julia King, Andrew Milligan, Jeremy Watson and Peter Ringrose.
Five are members of the current body who have been re-appointed to serve on the new public body, and will serve for two years from the 21st June 2007.
Alistair Darling said: “These appointments provide an extremely strong foundation for the new Technology Strategy Board to fulfil its role to promote research, development and exploitation of technology and innovation for the benefit of the UK economy.”
Graham Spittle is the Director of IBM’s Hursley Laboratory, and chaired the old advisory body. On the 1st of June he was appointed as Chair of the new body and will work in this role for a year.
All board members of the Technology Strategy Board will receive remuneration of GB pound 9,000 per year.
Over the period 2005-2008, GB pound 320 million in funding is being made available by the DTI to businesses to support research and development in technology areas identified by Technology Strategy Board.
