State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

The return of The Threat Within

The conference will examine regulation, intervention and culture, and follows the success of last year’s inaugural Threat Within event.

It will be chaired by Security Management Today editor Brian Sims, and the keynote speech will be given by Adam Bates, global chairman of KPMG Forensic.

Issues covered at the conference will include:

– The controversial debate of employee vetting techniques and their infringement on civil liberties

– Vetting and management of contractual staff over a large and complex project

– New legal duties and adapting to becoming a ‘law enforcer’

– How to successfully develop a successful internal security culture

– Innovations in data controls to combat fraud

– Technological and management solutions to combat employee theft

Unique and essential

The conference is organised by the people behind IFSEC, and is presented in association with I4S and SMT. The organisers say: “To ensure effective risk management of staff or contractors looking to exploit your organisation – strengthening your system of policies and procedures is critical. Especially in a digital era where organisations are more open to fraud and infiltration.

“The Threat Within is a unique and essential event, providing an independent platform for frank discussion, honest advice and critical best-practice sharing. Join your peers in London this November, and share your ideas to reduce vulnerability – and avoid what can sometimes be harmful, costly, embarrassing and disruptive events.”

Speaking engagements

As well as Sims and Bates, other speakers will include Stephen Cooper, the head of security at the Olympic Delivery Authority; Adrian Maxwell, barrister at St John’s Chambers; John Lee, strategy manager at Britannia Building Society; Roger Dawkins, UK R&D security manager at GlaxoSmithKline; and Chris Brogan, chief executive at Security International Ltd.

Calendar dates

The conference takes place at Le Meridien Piccadilly, London, on Wednesday 19 November.

There’s also a Pre-Conference Workshop, on Best Practice Employee Screening. It aims to provide details for participants on taking proactive steps to maximise protection. This is at the same location on Tuesday November 18.
