Three security apprentices were honoured at the BSIA Annual Apprentice Installer Awards.
The awards, presented at the British Security Industry Association’s Annual Lunch, went to Ewan Lindsay of Sim Ltd (overall winner), Kasar Mahmood of Abel Alarms Co Ltd (national winner) and Chris Johnson of ADT Fire and Security (national winner).
They received their trophies, sponsored by Dedicated Micros, from Sir Ronnie Flanagan, HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary.
David Dickinson, BSIA Chief Executive, said the three winning apprentices had shown “huge commitment” and potential in their work and a professional approach with customers and colleagues.
“With such committed young people in our industry its future is in safe hands”, he told the audience at the Hilton, London.
Overall winner, Ewan Lindsay was said to have excelled in all areas of his work, showed maturity beyond his years and received consistently good customer feedback.
National winner, Kasar Mahmood was said to be able to get quickly up to speed on new product development and was extremely keen to learn.
National winner Chris Johnson had become an integral part of his company’s team and was now a mentor of new apprentices.
The annual lunch also saw the presentation of the BSIA Chairman’s Awards.
Among the recipients was Tony Weeks, technical manager of the National Security Inspectorate who received the Contribution to Standards award for “his commitment to the development and raising of standards within the electronic sectors of the industry”.
The audience was told: “Tony works tirelessly on many committees to ensure that what is written can be understood by the installer and cannot be misinterpreted.”
The Annual Security Officers Awards and the Cash-in Transit Special Awards for Outstanding Service were also presented.
