Trigon team raises over £5,000 for leukaemia charity thanks to Three Peaks Challenge success

The Trigon Security and Risk Management Recruitment Consultancy’s managing director David Childs and his team of colleagues finished the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge just under the wire in a time of 23 hours.

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks – respectively – in England, Wales and Scotland within a 24-hour period. No mean achievement

The team of six travelled to Scotland and climbed Ben Nevis (which stands 1344 metres high) on 30 May 2009. Having descended the mountain, the intrepid team then travelled in a van for six hours until they reached the Lake District and the Scafell Pike.

Heading for the summit of Scafell Pike

They began the climb of Scafell (which reaches a height of 978 metres) at around midnight, completing the ascent in in just under two hours.

Finally, on the morning of 31 May, the team members headed for Wales to climb Mount Snowdon, which stretches 1,085 metres high. That climb accomplished, the team then took a well-earned breather!

Childs’ fellow team members for The Three Peaks Challenge were David Arkell (chief executive of The Colour House), Mike Jones (The Colour House’s manager), David Barker – a partner at CinVen – Scott Cooler (who works in production at The Colour House) and Westinghouse engineer Steve Newlove.

Physical and mental endurance test

“Why did we decide to take on The Three Peaks Challenge?” said Childs in response to an obvious question from SMT Online. “Well, the physical and mental aspects look interesting. It’s an endurance test and it’s nice to pit yourself against it, but obviously the main reason was that it afforded us the opportunity to help the Anthony Nolan Trust continue the great work it has been doing for so many years.”

The Anthony Nolan Trust has been in operation for over 30 years now, all the while helping thousands of Leukaemia sufferers. The Trust operates in many ways, searching for donors, linking donors with sufferers, creating, managing and maintaining the donor database and researching many areas of what can be a particularly virulent form of cancer.

Childs continued: “It was a very warm day on the Ben Nevis climb, with temperatures reaching 26 degrees Centigrade. The coolness of the snowy peak when we reached it was most welcome!”

Congratulations from all of us here at SMT Online and in4o4security to every one of the team members on a magnificent effort!

By the way. For fact fans out there, it’s a popular misconception that the three peaks in question are in fact the three highest in Britain. In truth, over one hundred peaks in Scotland are higher than Scafell Pike, and 56 taller than Mount Snowdon. So now you know, folks!
