TV studio gets another 150 cameras
The installation, at the CBS Studio Centre in California’s San Fernando Valley, features a combination of analogue and digital technology from the company’s security systems division.
The 16,000sq m site is covered by Bosch Autodome and Dinion cameras and their associated encoding, decoding and video management systems. The high-resolution video is then streamed to VideoJet 8008 IP multi-channel encoders, which convert analogue camera signals into a digital format for transmission across the studio’s network.
PC workstations are used to playback and view footage from the cameras, which monitor the studio’s 18 sound stages and outdoor sets. A monitor wall in the facility’s command center – made up of 12 analogue monitors – receives data from Bosch VIP XD IP decoders and, while the VideoJet 8008s’ internal hard disks record video at the network’s edge, footage is recorded to a centralised NVR.
Bosch claims this design prevents video from being lost, even in the event of a network failure or maintenance downtime. If either occurs, security personnel should be able to retrieve video recorded by the VideoJet 8008 encoders for viewing once the network is restored.
Network switches and encoders are housed in 15 locations throughout the facility, allowing cabling for new cameras to be connected locally, which Bosch claims will make adding new cameras easy. An additional 15 cameras are expected to be added before the end of the year.
