Vicon chosen for Beijing games

The opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as some of the athletic events, will be held at the newly constructed Stadium. When completed the it will be able to seat over 90,000 spectators.

As athletes and spectators converge on Beijing this summer, Olympic committees and government officials are under great pressure to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors both before and during the event. A big event such as this can be a focus for terrorist attacks and it is crucial that high-tech video surveillance is used to its full.

Vicon’s Surveyor VFT day/night dome cameras were chosen because of their record for performance and reliability, the company says, and will be installed around the stadium, along with fixed cameras on Vicon’s Vistar pan and tilt drives.

Chris Wall, Vicon’s managing director, said: “We are delighted that our cameras have been entrusted to provide the surveillance at such an important venue and that Vicon will have a role in making the 2008 Olympics safe for everyone that attends or participates in events at the Beijing National Stadium.”
