State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

What about transferred risk?

In an effort to increase our client base, I’ve spoken to numerous security managers whose operations may require explosives clearance or passive and proactive narcotics searches. Quite honestly, I’m amazed that these managers seem to employ handler and dog teams without benefit of any Home Office licence for explosives detection, so what are they training with? They also choose to contract-in the services of companies who, frankly, have minimal experience in these fields.

The SIA isn’t bringing anything to the table as regards regulating and licensing such handlers and their dogs. That being the case, the National Association for Security Dog Users (NASDU) and the Metropolitan Police Service may have to step in.

What on Earth happened to transferred risk, and why are so few security professionals asking the relevant questions regarding capabilities and experience?
