Great review Colin, are there any example images in darkness?
Strange that there are no options to integrate motion sensors but presume analytics can be loaded onto it?
Very informative, thanks.

Tony, unfortunately it’s daytime here right now but to give you an idea of how the camera works in the dark I shot this clip below. The lights in my warehouse are old halogens that look very orange. After I shut the lights off, the warehouse has almost no light other than a little that creeps through the cracks in the door. Once I walk around you see a motion activated light turn on. That light is a 23 watt energy saver (equivalent of 100 watt incandescent). Lastly, Axis has several third party plugins you can use to add… Read more »

Thanks for such a fast response Colin. Your video clip really brings the camera’s capabilities to life.
How does this compare to other cameras in a similar price range?

The only camera I could compare it to (that I’ve actually had experience with) is the Avigilon 2 MP HD PTZ.
Although I’ve never run the two side-by-side, I would say the picture quality from both cameras is excellent. Maybe I need to shoot a head-to-head next time I have both in inventory…
Aside from picture quality the Avigilon PTZ has a relay input and output, as well as audio support that this Axis PTZ does not. At the same time, the Axis PTZ has the Gatekeeper feature and supports Axis third-party plugins, which really expands the possibilities.

Cheers for the extra video Colin. Your posts are really informative so please keep them coming!
After many years of being pleasantly surprised by datasheets but then deeply disappointed with actual results, its great to see your examples. I have tested many cameras side-by-side in shootouts (even getting each company’s specialists to set them up) and am always amazed at the differences in actual performance from cameras with very similar datasheets.
Thanks again.

From the video shown, it looks the DR range of the camera is not so wide, because in the case of small source of high contrast ( side door open ) we loose the details of the object ( person standing at the door) and Axis did not give the WDR range of the camera in the data sheet.

Isn’t it always the way? Fuel economy in a car etc. these tests are always done in controlled scientific environments rather than real-world results. Great to see Colin’s extra video to show additional (real world) context, and I’m glad you found it useful Tony.
