Images recorded by the ProGuard system show the source of the fire and record the driver’s actions that averted disaster.
The ProGuard system fitted to the vehicle was a standard system used in all 21st Century’s CCTV installations.
The recording unit was removed at the depot after the fire and was found to be still working. It only stopped recording when it lost power.
Total destruction The 21st Century ProGuard showed where the fire started and how the driver quickly evacuated the bus and moved passengers waiting to board away from the vehicle. The system even recorded passing motorists stopping to offer assistance.
Paul Rogers from 21st Century said: “Photographs taken after the fire show the total destruction the fire caused to the vehicle. However the ProGuard unit survived relatively unscathed and we were able to download images of the fire as it started and spread.
“Clearly these images were extremely useful to fire investigators and to the bus company and show how important such robust systems are in providing clear information to bus operators in the event of any kind of incident.”
