Italian town cuts vandalism with IP CCTV

Police say the Indigovision system in Sergnano, in the north of the country, has been so effective at cutting vandalism that it has already paid for itself.

“The new IP-CCTV system has allowed the police department to better manage its human resources and to achieve greater control of the territory around Sergnano,” says police commander Marco Cattaneo.

Although home to a mere 3,000 people – and just two police officers – the town is spread over 13 sq km. For this reason, an analogue system was thought too expensive to install.

IndigoVision’s solution was then installed on a combined wired and wireless network, allowing remote locations to be monitored cost-effectively.

Supplied by Bettini Video and installed by their local partner Centro Sicurezza Brescia, the system consists of 11 dome and fixed cameras. These monitor the town’s primary school, kindergarten, public buildings, cemetery and town square.

Police officers use IndigoVision’s IP video and alarm management software – ‘Control Center’ – to view live and recorded video from any of the cameras, and IndigoVision claims that by combining this software with the network, they have created a ‘virtual matrix’ that is very flexible and highly scalable.
