Network video surveillance has overtaken analogue in the Middle East, according to IMS Research.
In the report IMS Research estimate that network video surveillance equipment accounted for 53% of video surveillance equipment in 2011, earlier than previously predicted.
The last edition of ‘The Middle East Market for CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment’, published in 2010, predicted the economic slowdown would mean the tipping point would not be reached until 2012.
However, Islamic banks were less exposed to the global debt crisis, meaning a continued investment in technology.
Market analyst and report author, Oliver Philippou, said; “With less impact from the 2008 economic slowdown than expected due to the conservative nature of the Islamic banking system and an increase in global oil demands, many regions of the Middle East have continued to see massive infrastructure projects. This has led to an acceleration in the transition from analogue to network video surveillance technologies.
“With some countries, including Turkey, still predominantly installing analogue equipment, this transition is just getting started. Network video surveillance equipment is forecast to account for 79% of network and analogue video surveillance equipment sales in the Middle East by 2016.”
Turkey is the largest market in the Middle East, and is still mainly an analogue one. However, IMS Research predict that a number of infrastructure and transportation projects will help see a significant increase in network surveillance by 2016.
Growth in the sector in Iran will be generated by a focus on city surveillance, say IMS, and in Saudi Arabia large infrastructure projects in hospitals, schools and airports will be the key driver.
IMS Research also predict that the construction industry in the United Arab Emirates, which has been particularly adversely affected by the global slowdown, will pick up towards 2015 and 2016.
