For cost-effectiveness, it was decided to reduce cable installation and use an IP-based surveillance solution instead. With the existing LAN and Internet infrastructure, the IP system also offers easy installation for temporary camera sites. ACTi’s SED-2100 video servers were used to connect to the existing analogue cameras. These digitise video from the cameras and transmit it via the LAN. CAM-5100 IP cameras and CAM-6100 IP speed domes were also installed for all new sites.
The updated solution provides Westcon’s management with video from nearly every area of the yard, 24 hours a day, via the Internet. Images can be viewed at full D1 resolution at 25 frames per second and a low bit rate, saving on the cost of both bandwidth and storage.
