University installs IQeye cameras to help cut crime

The university, which has 15,000 students, has installed 450 cameras to date, most of which are IQeye cameras. It plans to have 500 when the latest phase is completed.

IQeye HD megapixel cameras are being installed throughout the main campus in Coral Gables. Most of the newer cameras feature H.264 main profile compression, which has reduced bandwidth and storage demands.

The university is also using OnSSI video management software for its security system. Steve Weatherly, the university’s senior security engineer said:

“We are continuing on the same path we’ve been on for the last year or so – working with the campus police to identify high-crime areas and then covering those areas with megapixel cameras. Right now, we’re focusing on bike theft and deploying cameras in about eight different areas to more effectively combat those incidents.”
