State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

Video surveillance as a service must provide quicker ROI

Video surveillance as a service (VSaaS) has to provide a high return on investment quickly to make it more attractive to shops and other end users.

This is according to IMS Research’s market analyst Sam Grinter, who claims a VSaaS solution must return on the initial investment as soon as possible to add value over a traditional video surveillance system.

Video surveillance as a system allows security cameras to be accessed and managed remotely via the internet. A subscription to a VSaaS system typically costs between $125 and $200 a month.

The growth of the VSaaS market has been slow however with the market for SMB’s estimated to worth less than $50 million in the Americas market.

In order to drive faster growth VSaaS systems need to have additional features that allow the user to gain more business data – from customer flow information to point of sale marketing intelligence.

Grinter said: “The on-going service cost and lack of knowledge of the potential benefits of VSaaS on the customers behalf, has limited growth. A VSaaS provider must justify why a company should invest in their VSaaS solution. Demonstrations and trial deployments have proved effective strategies for introducing new customers to VSaaS.

“Increasing the functionality of a ‘traditional’ video system not only extends the application of the solution, but also spreads the cost of the service for the customer. This makes the entire solution a more attractive proposition. If more VSaaS providers follow this strategy the adoption of VSaaS in the SMB market could grow quickly over the next five years.”
